Review on biomass cookstoves: performance, evolution, and future development
Abstract
In developing country, it is approximately 3 billion people rely on biomass for heating as well as cooking their food. Nearly 50% of the world’s population relies on solid fuels for house-hold heating and cooking by burning the firewood in a traditional cook stove which facing problem of low thermal efficiency and high pollutant level. Various efforts to increase thermal efficiency as well as to reduce pollutant level of a traditional cookstove have been performed. Many published papers in developing biomass cookstove have been studied and cited in this review paper. According to those published papers, it can be figured out there are three generations of the biomass cook stove, i.e. a traditional cookstove, an improved cookstove, and an advanced cookstove. Many designs have been proposed to obtain the best performance of the cookstove. This present review paper aims to discuss and summarize various works in developing a high performance of cookstove including various designs and challenges of the current development. Hopefully, this review article able to give more insight for them who interest in maturing a clean and eco-friendly biomass cook stove.
